Did you ever notice that in cartoons, drawings, or videos, there are often images of puppies chewing on or gnawing bones, creating a common misconception that we can give bones to dogs because they enjoy them? However, in reality, that’s not entirely true!
When we go out to eat at a restaurant, we often see dogs giving us those adorable puppy eyes, begging for food throughout the meal. Some people even offer chicken with bones to their canine companions, and the dogs seem to enjoy it immensely. But what happens after they’ve consumed the bone? Is it dangerous or filling? Today, MyFriend will provide everyone with the answers in this article. 🦴🐶
Dogs can definitely snack on bones, but it’s best if you avoid this. You should let them snack on raw bones instead of cooked, because cooked bones have a higher chance of causing internal damage in your pup, compared to uncooked/fresh bones.
Cooked bones have a higher chance of causing damage. Our furry friends might bite into the piece and the pieces that break off can have a sharp edge, damaging their digestive system and causing them to bleed internally. Fresh bones are less likely to break since they are more sturdy, but our canine companions can still potentially cause breakage and result in sharper bones entering their digestive track. It also has a high chance of being contaminated, such as Salmonella, which might cause an upset stomach or other symptoms like puking. So no matter if it’s cooked or uncooked, it’s not advised to give your pups bones. But if you want to give them something to help with their dental hygiene, there are other products available that can help with their oral health better! Check some recommended items here!
Snacking on fresh, uncooked bones can help them with their calcium and phosphorus levels. But all of this should be advised by the vet before doing so! Just so they don’t receive certain nutrients in excess, and to reduce any potential harm in consuming bones.
Incorporating bones into our pet’s diet has both benefits and risks, and the mentioned risks could potentially lead to serious injuries or even loss of life for our furry friends. The signs of injury can be quite evident, but sometimes it’s not clear if our little ones are hurting 😥. So, when you give bones to your pets, you should be careful not to overlook any signs and seek advice from a veterinarian before letting them snack! 🩺
